MANILA, Philippines – Out of The Box Initiative, a Manila-based NGO has achieved first place at the Global Media and Information Literacy Awards for its efforts towards media literacy and the fight against disinformation by UNESCO.
The Global MIL awards acknowledge individuals and groups that are “innovatively integrating MIL in their work and related activities."
First launched in 2014, OOTB became the first Filipino NGO to achieve a prize at the Global MIL awards since its founding in 2015.
OOTB has produced the #MIL4Democracy Handbook which contains lesson plans aimed toward the Filipino Youth to educate them about their rights and duties as digital citizens.
OOTB also instigated programs on fact-checking as well as media and information literacy to promote critical thinking and develop acknowledgment towards learning institutions.
